About Logan
Logan Newhouse is a percussionist whose passion for music has propelled him from the heartlands of Iowa to the vibrant stages of Orlando, Florida. Born and raised in Estherville, Iowa, Logan's journey through music began in his hometown, where he cultivated his talent and dedication.
Logan is an active educator who aims to instill passion in the next generation of musicians. Logan is currently serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the University of Central Florida, where he contributes significantly to the Band and Percussion areas. Logan works primarily with athletic bands, where he helps teach and arrange for the Marching Knights Drumline. In addition, Logan helps with the weekly operation of the Marching Knights ensemble as a whole, ensuring the group is able to succeed and grow throughout the fall season. Logan also teaches the Percussion Techniques course to undergraduate Music Education students. Prior to his position at UCF, Logan held multiple positions as a Percussion/Drumline instructor and arranger for multiple high schools in Iowa. He has experience teaching students of all ages, and is eager to continue to educate growing performers.
In addition to his pedagogical endeavors, Logan is an accomplished performer, gracing stages across the country. From large orchestras, wind bands, the Hawkeye Marching Band, Crossroads Indoor Percussion, classical chamber groups, and solo recitals, Logan's versatility and artistry has earned him respect and acclaim within the music community. Logan has been seen as a feature snare drum and marimba soloist with Iowa Percussion and on the 2023 Iowa Summer Music Camp Faculty Recital. Logan regularly performs with the UCF percussion ensemble, where he coaches and performs chamber music along side his colleagues in the UCF percussion studio. In addition to performing, Logan is passionate about furthering the percussion field through new music. Most recently, he commissioned and premiered the marimba solo, "Two Impromptus" by Peter Naughton.
Logan began his collegiate journey at the University of Iowa under the tutelage of Dan Moore, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education, graduating with high honors. During his time at Iowa, Logan's commitment to excellence was evident, earning him accolades such as University Honors and Honors in Music. With a thirst for knowledge and a relentless pursuit of excellence, Logan is currently furthering his education at the University of Central Florida, where he is completing his Master of Arts in Music: Percussion Performance, studying with Thad Anderson, Kirk Gay, and Jeff Moore.
Beyond his academic and professional endeavors, Logan is deeply committed to community service, using his musical talents to uplift and inspire others. Whether through his involvement with the Iowa Steel Band Tours or his participation in various outreach programs, Logan exemplifies the transformative power of music to connect and enrich lives.
